About the Item
The Notch Lamp is a solid oak table lamp with a large frosted globe bulb. The lamp sits on four bronze feet and is switched on the cord with a dimmer.
This collection finds its foundation in ‘cribbage’, a rough-cut lumber used to build support structures called ‘cribs’ in coal mines. This material which would otherwise go to waste, is recycled, hand-cut, and charred to create the pedestal base at the root of this collection. A visual connection is easily made between the harsh and sporadic dark forms and the raw minerals drawn from the earth.

Michael Javidi is a multidisciplinary craftsman whose training at the North Bennett Street School’s furniture making program prepared him for a career of wooden boat building.
