About the Item

Otto Prutscher designed this lamp for the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels Modernes in Paris. It was manufactured by the Viennese bronze foundry Melzer & Neuhardt. Solid bronze casting; silk shade. Renewed electrification. It was exhibited in the pavilion designed by Josef Hoffmann. Apparently, Prutscher was awarded a gold medal for the design – he recorded this in his CV, and it is also mentioned in a congratulatory letter from the Vienna Arts and Crafts Association dated November 6, 1925. The original photograph with the corresponding description is kept in the archives of the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) (inv. number KI 10147 - 73).
