About the Item

A Fabulous Pair of Chinese Famille Verte Porcelain Covered Ginger Jars Mounted as Lamps. Each is of baluster form, with a domed lid and wide, slightly everted rim, mounted as table lamps with brass hardware. The porcelain bodies are decorated in the famille verte palette, featuring panels framed with fine black lines enclosing scenes of long-tailed birds perched on flowering branches, surrounded by peonies, chrysanthemums, and rockwork. The birds are painted in shades of green, blue, pink, and orange, with detailed feathering, while the flowers display a range of polychrome enamels including pink, purple, yellow, and iron red. The necks and shoulders are adorned with alternating floral sprays and auspicious motifs within shaped cartouches over a pale green diaper ground. The lids mirror this decoration, with panels of flowering plants and further cartouches containing stylized emblems. The foot of each jar is encircled by a vertical banded border in green, blue, and yellow enamels. The reverse sides feature shaped panels enclosing smaller bird-and-flower compositions, similarly bordered and executed in matching enamels. Each jar is fitted with a bronze lamp assembly, including dual bulb sockets with pull chains and a porcelain finial painted in iron red with a chrysanthemum design. The porcelain surfaces display the smooth glaze and precise line work typical of famille verte decoration, with the color palette remaining consistent across both jars. China, Circa: 1850 The measurements listed are only of the jars. The overall total height is:
