Pair of Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi Glazed Ceramic Lamps

About the Item

An early lamp by Ettore Sottsass for Bitossi, this line of tri-glazed vessels and lamps were commissioned by the Italian ceramicist for a Dutch department store, De Bijenkorf. Produced c.1958, the ovoid design layers a pebbled, matte black glaze over a white glaze, then emblazoned with a swash of pale blue volcanic glaze. In this particular example, the “eruptions” are particularly fine, showing just pinpoints of the black glaze beneath. Dimensions: 7.25" diameter x 29.5" height; shade 15" diameter x 12.25" height Condition: Excellent original condition with no chips. Newly rewired with new linen lamp shades.
