Table Lamp Lesbo in Blown Glass by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide 70s

About the Item

Table lamp Lesbo in blown glass by Angelo Mangiarotti for Artemide 70s The Lesbo lamp is a symbol of the '' made in Italy '' design of the 70s. It was designed in 1967 by the great architect and industrial designer Angelo Mangiarotti. Its round shape is associated with a noble material worked with a great craftsmanship quality. Lesbo consists of a polished metal base and a diffuser made of a single hand-blown Murano glass element. The diffuser has beautiful white / transparent shades obtained thanks to the excellent know-how of the master glassmaker. This lamp is unique, beyond the shades of white that vary from one element to another. The main characteristics of the work of the Italian architect Angelo Mangiarotti are found in Lesbos: the prevalence of glass and the sculptural shape of a mushroom. The Lesbo lamp emits a diffused light. Artemide was born in the province of Milan in 1959 by the designers Ernesto Gismondi e. In the following years, new designs were created for Artemide's ever-changing collections, whose spirit has always been to create original and effective lamps, including pendant and ceiling lamps, in collaboration with the greatest design talents around. Angelo Mangiarotti (Milan, February 26, 1921 - Milan, June 30, 2012 ) was an Italian architect, designer, urban planner and academic. He is one of the most important figures in the field of architecture and urban planning, especially Italian and American (but also Japanese and European), as well as internationally recognized as one of the most influential designers of the twentieth century and one of the most important figures in design.

Sergio Mazza is an Italian designer born in 1931 in Milan. In 1955 he began his free profession and since 1961 he has been working alongside G. Gramigna in the Smc studio, working in the furniture and industrial design fields. Among the various acknowledgments and prizes received, we recall the mention at the Compasso d'Oro 1960 for the Delta lamp by Artemide and the silver medal for the Italian apartment at the X Triennale in Milan. From 1967 he also began to design for Olivari, signing the Macco handles, up to the Giuliana model, with Gramigna, in 1987. In the publishing field, again with Gramigna, he directed the "Ottagono" magazine from its foundation until 1988. Artemide is a company specialized in the production of lighting accessories (lamps, chandeliers, light points), founded by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza in 1959. The brand has been characterized since the beginning by a great attention to the design that has allowed over the years to win numerous international awards for its products. Among the most prestigious names in Italian design, Artemide is also one of the world's leading companies in high-end residential and professional lighting. Already in 1967 he received his first prize the prestigious Compasso d'Oro for the Eclisse lamp, designed by Vico Magistretti. This award is followed by many others, nationally and internationally, making Artemide one of the symbolic companies in the design lamp sector. In 1996 Artemide made its own a new manifesto, in which it still identifies itself today: with the motto "The Human Light...
