Technical Desk Lamp by Giotto Stoppino for Candle - Italy - 1960s

About the Item

This extendable lamp is an iconic creation of designer Giotto Stoppino, produced by the well-known Italian company Candle. The lamp's design is distinguished by its minimalist and functional structure, which perfectly embodies the Italian design aesthetic of the 1970s. The lamp features a light beige plastic body with a rectangular shape and clean lines. Its distinctiveness lies in its articulated pantograph arm, composed of two metal segments, painted white, connected by circular aluminum joints, which allow the lamp's tilt and height to be adjusted. The base, also made of beige plastic, provides stable support and contains a groove designed to hold small items or tools. The electrical cord, visible on the back, is still the original one except for the plug, which was replaced for safety reasons and completes the design with a touch of simplicity. Note on the Designer and Manufacturing Company: Giotto Stoppino (1926-2011) was one of the most influential Italian designers of the 20th century, known for his contributions to the industrial design movement. His works are distinguished by the fusion of aesthetics and functionality, with a focus on detail and innovation in materials and forms. Candle, the company that produced this lamp, was a major player in Italian design during the 1970s and 1980s, known for producing high-quality lamps and design objects, often collaborating with prominent designers such as Stoppino. Over time, Candle's creations have become collector's items, prized for their originality and for the excellence of made in Italy.
