Large Viennese Cold-Painted Bronze Lamp of a Mandolin Player by Bergman
Located in London, GB
Large Viennese cold-painted bronze lamp of a mandolin player by Bergman Austrian, c. 1910 Height 39cm, width 15cm, depth 15cm Crafted around 1910 by Franz Xaver Bergman (Austrian, 1861-1936), this Orientalist sculptural lamp depicts a young woman playing a mandolin and singing. She is sitting on a green cushioned seat while beneath her feet is a polychrome patterned rug draped on two steps. Dressed in typical Orientalist clothing, her beautifully executed facial expression suggests she is in a joyful mood. Above the main figure is a domed canopy. Its construction includes a pierced window draped by a striped red and gold curtain. A gold shield and a flag also hang on the construction. The domed cover is superbly decorated with trefoil windows filled with coloured glass and is surmounted by a crescent moon which is an important symbol of Islam. A similar motif can also be observed on the flagpole. The lamp is stamped with a ‘B’ in an urn-shaped cartouche, ‘GESCH’ as well as ‘3’. The cold-painting technique has been superbly used to highlight even the smallest details of the scene, such as the patterns on the rug or the texture of the seat. An almost identical example is featured in Joseph Zobel, Antique Vienna Bronzes...

Nephrite, Diamond, Gilt Metal Lamp with a Cheetah by Asprey
Located in London, GB
Nephrite, diamond, gilt metal lamp with a cheetah by Asprey English, c. 1980 Height 90cm, diameter 42cm This superb sculptural lamp depicts a cheetah elegantly sitting under a tree. Made in around 1980, by the well-known English firm of Asprey, the piece is an example of some of their finest work. Nephrite, a semi-precious stone is superbly carved in a dome shape and acts as the lampshade. Its green colouring with speckles of black superbly acts as the tree top and adds a vibrant pop of colour to the piece. When light shines through the nephrite, the patterns are emphasized and transform the appearance of the lamp as well as its surrounding. Gilt metal detailing tops the lampshade and decorates the rim. A gilt metal tree trunk connects the lampshade to the base. Several twisted branches extend at the top, appearing as if they are getting lost inside the leaves imitated by nephrite. The superbly cast texture of a tree trunk adds to the realistic feel of the piece. A gilt metal cheetah...

Matali Crasset Nomade Led Floor or Table Light
Located in London, GB
French designer Matali Crasset has created a lamp based on traditional railway lighting for IKEA's PS 2017 collection. Crasset took inspiration from classic hand-held railway lanterns for the design. "I've always been interested in different types of transport and been fascinated by how magical it must have been when we got light indoors," said the designer, who previously designed a grid-patterned wardrobe for IKEA's 2014 PS collection. "So it's maybe not surprising that I was inspired by old railway lights when I created the LED multi-use light in the IKEA PS...

A Pair of White Painted Armature Lamps with Terracotta Figures by William Haines
Located in Palm Desert, CA
This collection, purchased directly from the heirs of the estate presents a rare opportunity to own a piece of Los Angeles design history. The house, originally designed by Paul Williams in 1933 was given the Haines touch when his clients a young family of five purchased and moved in in 1963. Haines made appropriate changes to the structure and being at the top of his game, both the architectural changes and the custom furnishings clearly illustrate this. He discreetly added a projection room to the front of the house so that the cleverly concealed projectors made for a movie going experience in the living room. Other Haines touches abound in this, a wonderful and thoughtful interior perfectly capturing a moment in time when life was glamorous. These lamps, originally used in the sitting room of the primary suite is a fine example of Haines versatility using this unique approach to lighting. So often Chinese articles...
