About the Item

A very large 1960s ceramic lamp by French ceramicist Georges Pelletier for the world acclaimed Accolay Potteries. This large black glazed ceramic lamp is a fabulous example of his unique style with trade mark detailed holes and white suspended, geometric ceramic shapes on metal rods. All of which are back lit from a central light within the base. Re wired with new brass fittings inside and on top of the base, antique black cord flex and switch. Georges Pelletier was born in 1938 in Brussels, Belgium and began his work in ceramics in 1953 at the Pioulier school of Vence in the south of France. He later moved to Paris where he attended the Académie Charpentier. In 1955, he then entered the école des Arts et Métiers and also practiced and perfected his ceramic techniques at the Poteries d’Accolay whicxh is where this lamp was made. In 1960 he opened his first ceramic studio in Paris, his unique pieces attracted the attention of Maison Bobois and from 1961 to 1973 they sold his creative lamps and sculptures. The lampshades were made by Pierre Ménard from Roche Bobois fabrics. His totally unique style included solar motif’s and back lit cut out details with metal pieces and beads all integrated into his ceramics. In 1973, he moved to Cannes, where he set up his new atelier and worked there until his death on 12th February 2024
