Vintage Ceramic Table Lamp by Jacques Blin '1974'

About the Item

Mid-century ceramic table lamp (1974) by Jacques Blin. A beautifully burnt-orange hued lamp and sgraffito-etched harp with heart-and-clover decoration is in Blin's trademark misty glaze. The piece was seemingly produced as a one-off for an A.D. Burley, most likely of Irish heritage given the piece's decoration. Since the 13th century, the harp had been considered the heraldic symbol of Ireland. In good overall condition commensurate with age. Highly collectible and rare personalised piece. The shade is not included. Re-wired for UK use. Signed on the lower exterior of the piece: 'J. Blin'. Please enjoy the accompanying photos to this listing. About the Artist: Jacques Blin (1920-1995), an engineer by trade but with a love for the visual arts. Blin has an immediately recognisable style characterised by a more or less misty appearance of the glaze and by decoration deeply marked in the raw clay, a method he used throughout his career. He frequently depicted fanciful birds, primitive animals, stylised figures, plant life and whimsical abstract motifs in his works. Dimensions of ceramic only: Height 33 cm / 13" Diameter 18 cm / 7.1".

About the Artist: The mid-century ceramic art of Roger Capron (1922-2006) embodied the vibrant spirit and verve of Vallauris and the French Côte d'Azur. He took over an abandoned pottery studio at the age of 24 in Vallauris, where he worked with Robert Picault and then Jean Derval. Capron’s ceramic workshop, known as "l'Atelier Callis", contributed to the renaissance of ceramics in Vallauris and at its peak employed over 120 ceramicists.
