About the Item

Very rare zoomorphic bird ceramic lamp, signed CAB ( Ceramique d'Art de Bordeaux) on the bottom. Beautiful black and yellow glaze, very good condition, made in the 1930's. It was distributed by Primavera, the prestigious Le Printemps art workshop. "Céramique d'Art de Bordeaux (CAB) is a factory made between the two wars, established in Caudéran in 1919 and closed in 1947, it produced decorative objects under its signature – mainly vases or dishes – and supplied a number of pieces to Primavera. The company has, it seems, sold little in Bordeaux itself and its creations are currently scattered throughout France. Its work is characterized by permanent research into the play of fire, earth and the treatment of enamels." "Le Printemps (spring in French) was the first of the French department stores to own a design workshop at the beginning of the 20th century : Primavera (“spring” in Italian) The adventure began in 1912 with two enthusiasts of Decorative Arts : Pierre Laguionie (1884-1978), director of Le Printemps and the lawyer René Guilleré (1878-1931), founder of the Salon des Artistes décorateurs. Their objective was to promote artistic craftsmanship in the daily lives of French people on the motto of beauty and utility, they selected very carefully the decorative objects and furniture they sold : they must have been beautiful and modern. After the First World War, the workshop experienced rapid growth. The 1925 exhibition at the Salon des Arts Décoratifs allowed the public to discover modernities of this workshop which improved everyday life and homes." Vintage rope lampshade is included. Measurements with lampshade : height 28 cm, diameter 19,5 cm. Lamp measurements without lampshade : height 20 cm, width 8 cm, depth 10 cm.
