Handmade: Variation is to be expected, each piece differs in color, size, shape and decorations due to its handmade nature and natural pigments. memòri is about simplicity, imperfections, and embracing the "flaws".
Each piece is fired in an open fire - a dug hole during more than 12 hours, which makes unexpected and surprising results, including smoke marks on some pieces. This means that each piece is one of a kind and cannot be duplicated.
Care instructions: The ceramics are not glazed. We advise you to keep it as a decorative object if you want to conserve the original aspect.

The potters of northern Morocco perpetuate the ancient art of modeled pottery, which first appeared around 6,000 BC. The techniques and patterns used today are very close to those of their origins. A rare and important pair of stoneware grotesque amphibious creature andirons by Robert Wallace Martin for Martin Brothers dating from the mid 1870’s. The heavily made andirons portray two grotesque amphibious creatures crouching on their hind limbs and bound back to back by a blue band. The creatures stand on a large rectangular stepped plinth base and are decorated in shades of ochre and blue, one slightly darker glazed than the other. Both have incised makers marks the edge of the plinth bases.
Provenance: Acquired directly from a private US Collection. For a similar pair, see Bonhams, Decorative Arts from 1960, 26th November 2013. Lot 3.

An early 20th century Arts and Crafts style Celtic planter or jardiniere and pedestal in terracotta after a design for Liberty’s London (stamped) by celebrated designer Archibald Knox.
Titled ‘Beowulf’, this large Celtic plant pot designed by Knox was manufactured for Liberty’s by J. Carter and Co, as is stamped on the socle. Carters made stone garden ware and terracotta for Liberty between 1900 and 1910.
Often unstamped, Celtic style planters like these are often mistakenly attributed to the Compton Pottery. However, we can be certain that this one was made for the luxury department store in London due to the ‘Liberty & Co’ stamp on the inside.
