17th Century German Barock Carved Mirror
Located in Lymington, GB
A rare German Baroque (Barock) superbly-carved oval mirror.
Early-17th century, circa 1620-1630.
The frame is exquisitely carved. The cresting with two cherubs supporting a cartouche, and seated upon displaying eagles.
The base centred by a grotesque mask typical of this early period. The oval frame is flanked by boldly-carved Barock scrolls and foliate decoration, the inner frame very well carved with egg and dart. Very minor losses entirely consistent with age. Plate later.
Heinrich Kreisel illustrates a related antique mirror (Neuburg/ Donau, 1620/1630) in 'Die Kunst Des Deutschen Möbels Von...

William & Mary Cushion Framed Mirror
Located in Bedfordshire, GB
An Extremely Charming Late 17th Century William & Mary Period Walnut Cushion Framed Wall Mirror, Of Exceptional Untouched Colour And Patina, Retaining Original Mirror Plate.
This is one of the most charming little mirrors that we have owned for quite some time. As can be seen from the images the mirror plate itself is very much pitted and silvered, but its original and wow doesn't it add great character. However its not one that we would recommend to anybody looking for a mirror in a spot where they actually need to see the reflection.
The cushioned frame is made in sections as expected for one from this period and retains a fabulous rich, warm colour to go alongside the aforementioned original mirror plate.
This mirror has real charm and character and actually something which we would happily add to our own collection at home given the chance. After all it is relatively rare to find a mirror of this date and form which is still as untouched and original as this particular one. It would make an absolutely great addition to almost any collection, room or spot for anybody who loves and appreciates traditional english antique furniture...

Late 17th C. Dutch Ebony and Ripple Cut Mirror
Located in Atlanta, GA
Coming from highly decorative techniques discovered and used in Antwerp in the mid-17th century for portrait frames, ebony ripple moldings were created to give a flicker of light, between the edge of a painting and its surround. They were first developed in the late 16th century, probably in south German cabinetmaking workshops. They were produced on a special milling machine...

Highly Carved 17th Century Giltwood Mirror from France
Located in Dallas, TX
This richly carved mirror features an ornate giltwood frame that was produced in France in the 1600’s. The frame most likely originally held a painting, although the mirror which has replaced the canvas is also antique.
The highly carved frame features a repeating floret motif along the edge of the 28 ½” H x 22 ¼” W oval opening. Dotting the numerous low-relief carvings are more pronounced flowers, such as roses and sunflowers. The floral ring is surrounded by a fluted geometric border entwined among large, curled leaves. At the top is a large floral bouquet crest adorned with small leaf margents.
Our highly carved 17th century...
