1940s Gold Infused Murano Glass Barovier & Toso Mirror or Picture Frame, Italy
About the Item
1940s Italian gold infused Murano glass picture frame or vanity mirror. Attributed to esteemed Venetian glassworks Barovier & Toso, though also very similar to designs by Carlo Scarpa for Venini.
The frame was made by hand in Venice by master artisans. Transparent and uncolored glass has been infused with flakes of gold. It has then been stretched into thin cylinders, wrapped back upon itself and twisted for an extraordinary effect.
The glass frame is crowned with a brass clasp featuring embossed ribs. There is also a brass inner frame to accent the subject, as well as a brass stand, that is hinged to fold flat.
The frame is supplied with a mirror cut perfectly to shape, as well as a sheet of clear glass. It can therefore be used as a photo frame or a vanity mirror.
