About the Item
Add refinement to an entryway, fireplace, or dressing area with this elegant antique mirror. Crafted in France circa 1870, the wall decor exemplifies the Louis Philippe style with its classic rounded corners, symmetrical profile, and richly gilded frame. The molded surround features a subtly stepped profile and beaded inner trim, while the outer border is decorated with delicate engraved foliate decor in low relief.
At the crown, the mirror is distinguished by an ornate central crest featuring a stylized scallop shell flanked by scrolling acanthus leaves, an embellishment that adds a touch of Rococo revival charm to the otherwise restrained Louis Philippe form. The frame features its original gilt gesso finish, now aged to a warm, softly burnished patina that enhances the antique character.
The mirror retains its original mercury glass and wooden back, securely affixed and indicative of 19th-century craftsmanship. Measuring 28 inches wide by 53.75 inches high, this versatile mirror is ideal for both traditional and transitional interiors; a wonderful addition for a powder bath or entryway!
