19th Century Silver Backed Crackle Foxed Giltwood Mirror
About the Item
Sometimes mirrors are all about the frames, this stunning French mirror is all about the almost other Worldly foxed mirror plate, it is truly spectacular, over more than 150 years the silver backed mirror has foxed to give the appearance of worming throughout the glass, this type of foxing takes decades to happen and it is incredibly rare to find such beautiful and extensive patination on a single mirror.
The frame is of wonderful, heavy giltwood construction, retaining the original back board.
French, dating to circa 1850.
