Baroque style Florentine painted and giltwood picture or mirror frame - expertly hand carved from one solid piece of wood - featuring robust gilded laurel leaf carving to the raised front - surrounded by red lacquer to the curving sides - all surrounded by an undulating ribbon border - replaced hanger to the back - unsigned - Italy - 18th century. Excellent antique condition - vintage replacement mirror (not original to the frame) - original painted and gilded finish - minor chips and wear to the gold gilt finish - no loss - no damage - no restoration - signs of age and use. Size/dimensions - small - 17 1/4" (43.7 cm.) diameter x 3" (7.6 cm.) deep. Opening size - 9 3/8" (23.8 cm.) diameter.

Elegant 18th century gilt wall mirror from the late baroque period around 1790 in Italy. The artfully handcarved, partly open worked frame shows a lovely gold leaf plated surface and is adorned by elaborately carved floral motives, covered by an amazing looking patina. The highlight builds the large, slightly forward tilted top carving. Red shimmering spots that shine through the slightly abrased surface are caused by the so-called "bolus", the substrate/ ground for gilding and confer this late baroque wall mirror an extravagant and luxurious appearance at the same time.
