About the Item

A Dutch mirror from circa 1900 featuring a richly textured ripple-molded frame, crafted in warm-toned brown wood with a fine, regular undulating surface. This classic decorative treatment, typical of Northern European cabinetry and framing, offers both visual rhythm and a tactile surface that catches the light subtly. Set just inside the ripple molding is a series of sharply angled ebonized moldings, forming a deep beveled surround that adds contrast and dimensionality. The juxtaposition of the warm brown and black finishes emphasizes the architectural profile of the frame. Between these layers, thin bands of inlaid figured veneer—likely walnut—offer tonal warmth and visual relief, further enhancing the interplay of materials. The mirror is fitted with a later but professionally executed papered back and hanging wire. Clean and rectilinear in form, yet richly detailed in execution, this piece works equally well in traditional and modern interiors where depth, contrast, and texture are desired. Likely originally conceived for wall use, it now hangs securely thanks to the updated backing.
