George II Painted Mirror in the Style of Matthias Lock

About the Item

A finely carved English 18th Century George II painted Mirror in the manner of Matthias Lock. Retaining historic original paint layers and with beautifully foxed and sparkling mercury plates. Circa 1745. See Christies ‘Farringdon House’ sale for a pair of similar examples. 12th April 2018 Lot 102 (£43,750). The form of this mirror closely relates to plate 2 of Matthias Lock’s pattern book ‘Six Sconces’ published in 1744.
