About the Item
A grand scaled and highly quality Italian 18th century Baroque st. Giltwood mirror, from the collection of Hugh Hefner. This exquisite floor mirror stands on two beautifully scrolled feet attached to very finely carved pierced decorations with blooming flowers and acanthus leaves flanking the central reserve which consists of carved acanthus leaves, 'C' scrolls, and a blossomed flower in the center. The mid section displays a wonderful array of foliate carvings with acanthus leaves and blooming flowers. The original mirror plates are set within a rectangular frame finely detailed with scrolling foliate designs and floral carvings with the inner frame containing scrolling carved designs and rosettes on the exterior which separate the two mirror plates from one another. Above is the stunning top crown showcasing a wonderful etched mirror plate of an individual with a feline in a woodland setting below a Giltwood female bust with flowers in her hair and wearing a scalloped crown with foliate carvings atop. Flanking the top crown are large corner mounts of beautifully carved scrolls with additional acanthus leaves and flowers.
