About the Item
A most decorative and unique Italian 19th century Baroque st. patinated wood and Giltwood mirror and planter. The mirror is raised on its stunning original planter base with mottled feet below a scalloped shaped frieze with a beautiful Giltwood band. The planter is centered by an impressive and finely carved pierced Giltwood satyr mask set on a patinated background and flanked by recessed carved circular patterns and rich rosettes with a painted red central cabochon. Above and below the mirror is the original and removable pewter insert. The stunning mirror displays a most decorative curvaceous shape with lavish scrolls and richly detailed foliate patterns. The original mirror plate is framed within an exceptional twisted Giltwood border with large scale Rocaille movements at the mid section. The top crown is centered by a satyr below a large pierced reserve with a smooth blue cabochon and flanked by similarly designed masks at each side. All original gilt and patina throughout.
