About the Item
A very impressive and most decorative Italian 19th century Louis XVI st. patinated and Giltwood mirror. This finely detailed rectangular mirror with its original mirror plate is centered by a pair of swaging berried laurel garlands at the bottom. The base and both sides of the mirror frame and exquisitely decorated with spiraling vines of berried vines, spiraling ribbon carving on the inner edge, and egg and dart patterns on the outer edge. The top crown consists of the eternal flame torch crossed with the quiver of arrows representing protection atop a berried laurel wreath accented by flowing ribbons. Below the top crown are swaging floral garlands extending to each elongated corner and gently laying partially down each side. Original gilding and patination throughout
