About the Item

A wonderful French early 18th Century Regence giltwood mirror. The heavily foxed original mercury glass plate with a soft shallow bevel. The carved frame with foliate strapwork and flowerheads on a fine cross-hatched ground with scrolling foliate corners. The cresting is unusually centred with a plumed Roman helmet. The original gilding is now beautifully and naturally aged. Various minor chips and losses are commensurate with age. Circa 1715.
