About the Item
An exceptionally rare and important 15th century Gothic iron strongbox, weighing approximately 80 kg. This large strongbox retains its original mechanical locking system, which remains in perfect working order- a remarkable survival from the medieval period.
The front of the box is fitted with its two original exterior locks, an extraordinary rarity as such elements were typically the first to be lost over the centuries. At the center, the strongbox also features its primary key mechanism for locking and unlocking, preserving the full complexity of its original security design.
Originally housed in a German castle, this piece later entered a distinguished private collection of the noble family Osterberg,-Bayern, Germany. Its monumental form, intricate Gothic ironwork, and complete locking system make it not only a significant collectible but also a striking statement piece for sophisticated interiors.
Strongboxes of this age and completeness are virtually never seen on the market, making this a unique opportunity for collectors, historians, and designers seeking a rare medieval masterpiece.
