About the Item
Color print on cardboard from the 1950s, depicting a Macchi M5 hydrocock built in Varese by the Anonima Macchi-Nieuport company, which later became Aeronautica Macchi.
Good condition, a few stains. Measurements cm63x 31.5x - 24.8x12.3x0.8 inches.
This seaplane first flew in 1917, designed by engineers Carlo Felice Buzio and Luigi Calzavara.
These are aircraft used by maritime patrol squadrons and as escorts for naval convoys, some times they were embarked on the seaplane support ship Giuseppe Miraglia. Toward the end of World War I, these seaplanes were also used by the U.S. Navy. In 1923 came the Regia Marina had an endowment of 65 M5 seaplanes, which were demolished in later years. Wingspan 11.90 meters, length 8 meters, 160 hp Isotta Fraschini engine, maximum speed 189 kmh with a range of 3 hours and 40 minutes. Designed by Giorgio Bigozzi and colored by Massimo Jacoponi both students in the postwar period of the Rome Art School.
