A Zaehnsdorf bound set of this impressive work on the birds of Britain, the first edition, illustrated. The first edition. Complete in five volumes. Bound by Zaehnsdorf. A comprehensive study exploring the indigenous and migratory birds of Britain; this is an expansive work which vividly details the birds' organisation, habits, relations, classification, organs, nomenclature, and more. Volume I is illustrated with nine plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout. Volume II is illustrated with four plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout. Volume III is illustrated with nine plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout. Volume IV is illustrated with four plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout. Volume V is illustrated with three plates, and in-text woodcuts throughout. Half-title is present to each volume. Collated, complete. Written by the Scottish naturalist and ornithologist, William MacGillivray. In a full crushed morocco binding, bound by Zaehnsdorf. Externally, smart. Spines are a little faded. A little light rubbing to the boards and spines. Only a few small marks to the boards and spines. Bump to the rear board of Volume II. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, scattered spots to Volume IV. Overall: Near Fine
