A limited edition set of the collected works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, an illustrated set signed by Conan Doyle.
A limited edition of one-thousand copies, of which this is numbered twenty-five.
The collected works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the 'Author's Edition'.
Though Conan Doyle is best known for his Sherlock Holmes works, he published a number of other works, exampled in this set. These novels include historical fiction set in the Middle Ages, and set during the Napoleonic Wars.
Including all the Sherlock Holmes works which had been published by 1903. Conan Doyle continued to publish Holmes works until 1927.
This set includes;
'The White Company', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'Tragedy of the Korosko and the Green Flag, and Other Stories of War and Sport', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'Micah Clarke', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'The Stark-Munro Letters, and, Round the Red Lamp, illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'The Exploits of Brigadier Gerard', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'The Refugees, a Tale of Two Continents', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'Rodney Stone', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'A Study in Scarlet, and, The Sign of Four', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate. Including 'A Note on Sherlock Holmes' by Dr. Joseph Bell.
'The Great Shadow, and, Uncle Bernac', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
'A Duet, With an Occasional Chorus', illustrated with a frontispiece, and one plate.
Collated, complete.
In a half crushed morocco binding with cloth to the boards. 'Micah Clarke', 'Rodney Stone', 'Adventures of Sherlock Holmes', and 'Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes' are neatly rebacked. Externally, smart. Spines are a little faded. Minor rubbing to the joints and extremities, heavier to the volumes which have not been rebacked. A few light marks, with a larger mark to the front board of 'Exploits of Brigadier Gerard'. A small amount of loss of leather to the tail of the front joint of 'A Duet'. A little discolouration to the front joints of 'Memoirs'. Crack to the rear joint of 'Stark-Munro'. Hinges of the volumes which have not rebacked are starting but remain firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Tissue guard to the frontispiece of 'Rodney Stone', with prior owner's pencil etching.
