Pompeiana The Topography, Edifices and Ornaments of Pompeii by Sir William Gell, complete in two 1/4 leather tall octavo volumes with marbleized boards. 82 full page engraved plates of which 2 are hand colored and 30 vignettes with a portrait frontispiece of the author. Volume 2 has a full description of the plates with explanations of the vignettes.
An interesting very well illustrated history of the excavations in Pompeii up to 1819 by Sir William Gell (1777-1836) published London: Lewis A. Lewis 1837. Gell was an archaeologist and well-known illustrator.
