Vintage Natural Jadeite & Gold Beaded Necklace with Carved Pendant of Guanyin

About the Item

This vintage Burmese jadeite and gold beaded necklace consists of 64 round beads, 8 mm in diameter, of colours varying from white, celedon, and lavender to other pleasing pastel colours. Interspersed between the jadeite beads are 9 carvedd 24k gold-plated beads, all strung on an elasticized cord. The pendant of Guanyin is lavender in colour and is fine in texture. Guanyin is expertly carved and is translucent with a glassy appearance. The pendant is 5 cm x 3.5 cm, and the necklace is 54 cm in length. The weight of the entire necklace is 84 g. The jadeite beads are well matched in size and shape, although there are several with 2 mm flat spots under the final polish. There is visible veining and sparse inclusions and a couple of beads that are a bit rougher in texture and may have missed a final polish. Despite this, the necklace is magnificent in its muted and coordinated pastels with glittering gold. The beads were tested and verified as jadeite by a GIA and IGS certified gemologist but were not graded. A formal certification available for an additional fee. The symbolism of this necklace is derived from the goddess Guanyin, a deity much beloved in many Asian faiths. Guanyin is the goddess of compassion or mercy or one who hears the world's suffering. As a talisman, this necklace is a symbol of compassion - for self and others. The pendant has a cool and silky feel against the wearer's chest, providing a calming effect. This would be a lovely gift for someone special.
