1958, Belgian Aluminum Triangle Panel of the Brussels Atomium

About

Highly collectable this aluminum triangle sheet. The Atomium is a landmark building in Brussels, originally constructed for the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, the building now is a museum. The Atomium was designed by the engineer André Waterkeyn and architects André and Jean Polak. In the 1950s, faith in scientific progress was great and an atom structure was chosen to embody this. The Atomium consists of nine iron atoms in the shape of a cubic unit cell of an iron crystal, magnified 165 billion times. Though the Atomium depicts an iron unit cell, the balls were originally clad with aluminum. By the turn of the millennium, the state of the building had become quite deteriorated and a renovation was needed. Renovation of the Atomium began in 2004. The renovations included replacing all the faded aluminum sheets on the spheres with stainless steel. This obviously is one of the original aluminum sheets, it is in great condition and it is numbered twice on the side, as you can see in the pictures. 46 years of Belgium weather gave the aluminum a nice matte patine.
