About the Item

A Very Fine French Miniature Armoire Constructed from walnut with refined brass hardware and wonderful carved details, the miniature armoire supported on scrolled front feet with a shaped apron, both doors with serpentine shaped paneling and with relief carving of flowers and scrolls in a symmetrical design with a central pilaster, opening to reveal an interior set with five slides and a lower compartment, the upper register with a larger carved vase filled with flowers supported on a scrolled corbel. French, circa 1880 Dimensions: H: 24 in / 61 cm W: 19 in / 48 cm D: 10 in / 25.5 cm Antique miniature furniture has a rich tradition rooted in craftsmanship, practicality, and beauty. These tiny treasures were sometimes made as salesman's samples, which were identical to larger pieces and used by salesmen to showcase quality. On other occasions, these small items were made as apprentice pieces, intended to demonstrate their learned skills. The superior quality of the carving, combined with the custom brass hardware and the meticulous fitted interior suggest this was a refined salesman's sample.
