About the Item

18th Century Walnut Prayer Kneeler from the Collection of Italian Prince Ambrogio II Caracciolo We present a unique piece of history! This magnificent kneeler in solid walnut dates back to the 18th century and belonged to the renowned Prince Ambrogio II Caracciolo, a distinguished Neapolitan nobleman of the period. Ambrogio II Caracciolo, born in Pollena in 1755 and deceased in Naples in 1818, played a significant role in the history of the Kingdom of Naples. As the 3rd Prince of Torchiarolo, he was a devoted collector of art and antiquities. His marriage in 1775 to Maria Teresa Sanchez de Luna marked a notable chapter in the Caracciolo family lineage. Throughout his life, Ambrogio II curated an impressive collection of precious artifacts, including this splendid kneeler. In 1788, he was appointed honorary inspector for the conservation of antiquities and fine arts, highlighting his dedication to preserving the region’s cultural heritage. This kneeler stands not only as an exquisite work of art but also as a tangible testament to the rich history and sophistication of 18th-century Italian nobility. The Caracciolo family, recognized for their significant historical contributions, is also mentioned on the website Nobili Napoletani, which chronicles the illustrious noble families of Naples.
