19th Century Italian Gilded Holy Water Font with Putti Angel Saints and Shell

About the Item

From Italy a stunning gilt bronze holy water font dating back to the first half of 19th century. An ormolu group sculpture depicting an unusual composition: on a stepped rectangular base two cherubs holding an original shell surmounted by a winged angel holding a censer in his hand. On each side two saints resting on the base, one holding the key and the triple crown, the other a pyx and a book. The composition of this ancient gilt bronze table holy water font is absolute original, it comes from a private collection in Central Italy and dates back to the first half of the 19th century. This antique Italian water font is an extraordinary artwork for collectors with superb casting, chasing and mercury gilding It is in a good age related condition, with minimal worn gilding parts on the base.
