Antique Church Wall Cabinet w. Biblical Pokerwork Scene of Mary & Bible Text

About the Item

One of a kind cabinet with rare pokerwork decoration. This multi-fuctional, practical size and all handcrafted wall cabinet is in excellent condition and it is an absolute joy to own and look at. What makes this religious cabinet/small bookcase extra special is the technique with which all the decorations have been created onto & into it. Pokerwork or pyrography is a technique of creating images on wood with the use of a hot poker. Looking at image 3 in close up, you can see a large number of burnt, small dotts and stripes that together create the 'bigger picture'. You can imagine that it must have taken the artist an incredible amount of time, focus and dedication. We don't know which biblical scene is depicted here, but the halo tells us that Mother Mary in the middle is assisted and comforted by female companions. The Latin text in the ribbon on the left side translates to 'glory to god in the highest' and the one on the right to 'and the words became flesh'. This rare cabinet also is highly practical and it can be placed on the floor AND on the wall. The doors open and shut perfectly (also thanks to a metal slide and a perfect working lock & key) and the shelfs on the inside can be adjusted in height.
