About the Item

Acetre. Bronze. Century XVI. Bronze piece that has a circular foot, and a circular body, with an outwardly hollowed mouth at the top, and a decoration in relief in this last area of masks that recall certain Renaissance pieces with Medusa (the rings for the handle arise from two of these elements). This acetre, a vessel for holy water also known as a situla, is a piece that, in this religious context, appeared in the West in the Middle Ages. The present example is inspired by Renaissance pieces both in its lines and in its decoration and, therefore, it also recalls works from Ancient Rome (site of the Landesmuseum in Hannover, etc). Size: 18x18x19 cms. Weight is orientative. International Buyers – Please Note: for those articles that need Export Permits (those older than 100 years), the obtaining of the Permit will be processed without additional expenses (if chosen to be sent with us), but the period for the obtention of it may vary from 10 to 35 days.
