About the Item
A Copper and Silver-Plated Mezuzah Case made by Stanley Lechtzin in 1983.
Stanley Lechtzin (1936-) Stanley Lechtzin, born in Detroit, is the Founder and Chairman of the metals/jewelry program at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia. Lechtzin, who holds degrees from Wayne State University and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, developed and pioneered the electro-forming process.
His Judaica has a style appropriate to the space age. He says he has no more wish to repeat the artistic forms of earlier times than to live in the 16th century.
His work is represented in many universities, museums, and private collections. He is the recipient of many awards, the latest for Excellence in Design from the American Craft Council in 1992.
This Mezuzah case is made of photo-etched copper at the top center with the first two paragraphs of the "Shema" prayer written in Hebrew encompassed by a silver-plated rectangle which makes up the shape of the Mezuzah case.
Attached to the back of the silver plate is a transparent hard acrylic with a keyhole shape pierced at the top and through the acrylic you can see the scroll encased inside.
Signed at the bottom back of the silver plate with the artist's signature and the year this Mezuzah case was made.
Literature and a similar example can be found in Belle Rosenbaum's Book "Upon Thy Doorstep".

A Mezuzah Case by Chava Wolpert Richard, New York Circa 1970, Judaica
Located in New York, NY
A Modern Mezuzah Case made by Chava Wolpert Richard in New York Circa 1970.
Chava Wolpert Richard was an artist who dedicated her career to the creation of Jewish ceremonial art. Growing up in the shadow of her father, Ludwig Yehuda Wolpert — one of the most influential innovators of modern Judaica of the twentieth century — she soon carved out her own career and came to be recognized as an artist in her own right.
Richard brought several innovative practices to the art of Judaica. For example, her mezuzah cases of the early 1960s were made of aluminum coated with phenolic.
This Mezuzah case is one of the classic examples of the modernistic designs. Reverse and rounded sides are made of aluminum and the front center is coated with phenolic. The front black panel fits smoothly into its rounded sides where a mezuzah scroll...
