About the Item

Massive post-modern stacked art glass menorah by Bill Meeks Studio, circa 1995. The piece features stacked pieces of free form art glass to form what looks like an ice sculpture. Absolutely gorgeous! The menorah is in very good vintage condition and measures a substantial 27"W x 9"D x 12"H. This is a very rare piece from one of America's top glass artists. Comes with a pack of twelve brand new tapered 10" candles. #4549 Inspired to create since childhood, Bill opened his first studio in Northern California in 1978 focusing on woodworking. Soon after he discovered glass as a medium to create his artistic vision through. Initially known for his glass carvings and etchings, by the mid 80’s his work became more sculptural and often abstract. Incorporating his self-taught glass methods into sculptures, fountains, lighting fixtures, and furniture, his innovative and unique style emerged. Public Bill Meek artwork can be viewed at many locations including: The Art Museum of South Texas, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, Houston Methodist Hospital, Texas Heart Institute’s Wallace Wilson Museum, St. Francis Health System/Tulsa, Salem Lutheran Church, Baylor College of Medicine, Richland College, Congregation Beth Yeshurun, and The Women’s Home. Bill’s art is in the collections of Lee Iaccoca, Racquel Welch, Tillman Fertitta, Olympians Zina Garrison, Scott Hamilton and Carl Lewis, Peter Holt (Spurs Former Owner), Shona Brown ( GOOGLE Former Executive), Robert Mosbacher (former Secretary of the Interior), Herb Kellerher (Southwest Airlines Former CEO), Jerry Jurgensen (Nationwide Insurance), Rita & Spencer Tillman (Super Bowl Champion and Sports Anchor), Allan Becker (Pace Concerts), Dr. Denton Cooley, Drayton McClane (former Astro's Owner), Judith McNaught (Novelist), Four Former Houston Mayors, Rodney McCray (Basketball Champion), Tom Frost (Frost Bank), The American Automobile Association, Bruce Stein (Triple S Steel), Jewish Family Services, and First Lady Barbara Bush among others. Two Gold Remi Award winning World Fest Houston documentaries, “Meek’s Broken Glass”, 2014 and “The Alchemist”, 2018 are each Short Film portrayals of Bill’s art work and philosophy. He also created art for 2 feature films, “I Come in Peace” and “Gem of the Rainforest”. Bill lived in Houston, TX for over 3 decades and was honored as a Houston Treasure by The Social Book in 2020. Bill and his wife Valerie are both recognized in Houston for their many contributions of artwork in support of non-profit organizations. Bill has built a myriad of sculptures within exceptional bodies of work. He has been creating art non-stop for 5 decades and beyond. Recently relocating to Los Angeles, CA his plans include: releasing an art book featuring some of his favorite pieces he's made throughout his lifetime, collaborating with some of his heroes, and building upon his current new series of masterpieces to showcase in the near future.
