A magnificent monumental Spanish ecclesiastical hand carved giltwood church processional / altar cross. Spanish, 19th century, the most impressive religious antique in brilliant gilded wood, gesso and red bolle, double-sided, having scrolled foliate borders, encasing inset mirror plates, now fashioned as a sculpture, fitted on a custom bronze display stand. Dimensions: (approx) 51.75" High, 37" Wide, 25lbs total Condition Report: A superb museum quality example, in overall great original antique condition with nicely aged warm rich patina and lustrous sheen. The cross stands sturdy/stable on later custom made bronze base. Attractive appearance. Wear commensurate with age, use, handling and exposure, including minor rubs to gilding, small scattered nicks, exposed gesso, mirrors largely intact with only two having noted fractures, mirrors on both sides show age appropriate hazing and spotting. Each reliquary stands 28.75 inches high and 16 inches wide, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and ornate detailing. The floral urn-shaped friezes are hand-engraved with silver and gilt finishes, crowned with a cross at the top.
