1930s Educational Model Papier Maché and Plaster Decipting a Baby Borning

About the Item

Educational model, papier maché and plaster, decipting a baby borning. 1930s-1940s, sold by the Hygiene Museum in Dresden. Very good condition. Measures of the board cm 45x35 - inches 17.72x13.77. The creation of the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum (1912) is due to the efforts of the Dresden industrialist Karl August Lingner, who has been among the protagonists of the First International Hygiene Exhibition in 1911, for which more than five million visitors had come to Dresden. After the hyperinflation period following the WWI, the museum staff was able to rebuild its wealth with the production and sale of anatomic models and educational materials. In 1930 the museum moved into the building designed by Wilhelm Kreis. In the Second International Hygiene Exhibition in 1930/1931, the biggest attraction was the Transparent Man, become the symbol of the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum and remained one of its most prominent exhibits. An air raid on Dresden in February 1945 destroyed much of the museum's building along with its valuable collection. After 1991 the Deutsches Hygiene-Museum was completely reconceived as a Museum of Man continuing the innovative approach of the museum in its early years. Shipping is insured by Lloyd's London.
