About the Item

George III stick barometer in a finely figured mahogany case with canted corners and architectural pediment surmounted by a central ivory finial. Exposed mercury tube with bulb cistern and bulbous cistern cover. Beautifully engraved register plate with five weather indications, sliding vernier pointer and mercury thermometer signed ‘Henry Andrews, Royston, circa 1800. A very fine Georgian stick barometer ‘Barometer makers and retailers’ by Edwin Banfield lists Henry Andrews as working from the High Street and Market Hill in Royston, Hertfordshire from 1800-1830.
