Set of Late 19th Century Double Faced French Bronze and Iron Butcher's Scales
About the Item
This set of late nineteenth century French iron and bronze butcher's scales is double faced and features the coat of arms of the city of Paris flanked by the messenger god Mercury and Lady Justice. Under the coat of arms is marked Force 10 Kilos, indicating the maximum measurable weight. Additional detailing of cows' heads and scrolling leaves complete the look. Its original brass pans were stamped by the French government to certify accuracy. With bronze needles and its double sided design, this piece is ideal as a centerpiece for a kitchen island. It would also make a statement on a mantel or as part of a tablescape, circa 1890.
