About the Item
1930s Art Deco Ronson LYTA-Case Tuxedo Combination Cigarette Case & Lighter
A sleek and striking example of 1930s novelty smoking accessories, this Ronson LYTA-Case Tuxedo combo cigarette case and lighter perfectly embodies the elegance, ingenuity, and mechanical sophistication of Art Deco design. The exterior features a bold linear enamel motif in black combined with a dynamic airbrushed tan and black abstract pattern, with a subtle, unengraved cartouche at the upper left.
The interior is finely finished with an engine-turned pattern and two hinged cigarette holders, one bearing the “Ronson” name. Additional engravings include “Genuine Chromium Plate” and “Ronson Lyta-Case Tuxedo, Arts Metalworks Inc., Newark, NJ, USA” along with patent numbers 19023 and 81823. The lighter remains fully functional, and the case opens and closes smoothly, reflecting Ronson’s reputation for high-quality, reliable design.
This example shows general wear, minor enamel losses, and an indentation on the lid, all consistent with its vintage character. Despite these imperfections, it remains a highly desirable collector’s item, prized for its combination of mechanical ingenuity, sophisticated Art Deco style, and historical significance.
Ronson, founded in the early 20th century, became renowned for innovative lighters and smoking accessories that combined function with elegance. Their LYTA-Case Tuxedo series exemplifies this legacy, making this piece particularly collectible among enthusiasts of vintage lighters, 1930s Art Deco objects, and mechanical novelties.
