Minimalist Kokeshi attributed to Muhitsu Miyajima, Japan, 1970s

About the Item

Minimalist Kokeshi, attributed to Muhitsu Miyajima, made in the 1970s. With its simplistic design, and its moveable head, it is perfect to be paired with our "Old Man Kokeshi", featuring a wonderful wood grain and picturing an old elegant lady escorting an old man for a promenade. The kokeshi in few words ? Handmade in Japan, these dolls come from the Tohoku region, which has lots of natural hot springs and where they were sold as souvenirs to the tourists. They come in a variety of shapes, colors, sizes and decorations, from the most traditional one to the most creative one, and the craftsmen who make them are awarded (among which the coveted Prime Minister Award) for the most beautiful kokeshi of the year.
