1929 Cowan Metallic Push-Pull Elephant Bookends Designed by Margaret Postgate

About the Item

Here is a wonderful pair of push-pull elephant bookends designed by Margaret Postgate in 1929 for Cowan Pottery. Hard to believe these modernist bookends are nearly 100 years old. What makes this pair extra special is the rare metallic copper luster glaze. One bookend is impressed with the Cowan mark. Both are in good condition--one had a glaze flake on a corner, which has been professionally repaired and there a couple pinhead-size losses at the bottom edge of the bookends. These are mentioned for detailed accuracy and in no way detract from how this hard-fo-find pair of bookends present.
