18th Century Louis XVI Three-Panel Arched Screens with Painted Floral and Architectural Motifs. An exquisite and rare set of three panel screens from the Louis XVI period, crafted in the South of France circa 1790. Each arched panel is meticulously hand-painted with neoclassical decorative motifs emblematic of the Louis XVI aesthetic, featuring garlands, musical and artistic trophies, scrolling foliage, and urns filled with delicate florals. The panels are arranged in harmonious symmetry, unified by their softly aged ochre-toned ground and framed in carved and gilded wood. The lower sections are adorned with stylized classical shell forms and acanthus flourishes, while the upper registers display suspended emblems- such as a painter's palette, hunting horn, and straw hat- each rendered with graceful trompe l'oeil illusion and entwined with ribbons. Executed in tempera or distemper on canvas over wood, the screens retain a remarkable original surface and patina, exhibiting the poetic elegance of late 18th-century Provincial craftsmanship.
