Rare Jennens & Bettridge Brimm Parcel Gilt Papier Mâché Hand Paint Pole Screen

About the Item

We are delighted to offer for sale this very rare Jenners & Bettrige Birmm London 19th century parcel gilt papier mâché pole screen with polychrome painted peacock panel and compressed melon base. A good looking and decorative piece, it is Victorian so circa 1840, made by the amazing firm of Jenners & Bettridge Birmm London, the painting is absolutely sublime and a piece of art in its own right It has been cleaned waxed and polished from top to bottom, it will have normal patina marks from genuine age and honest use, the panel has fallen at some point and had a small impact at the tip of the bottom, otherwise its perfect Dimensions: Height 134cm Width 39.5cm Depth 35cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point Jennens and Bettridge (a partnership between Theodore Hyla Jennens, John Bettridge (snr), Aaron Jennens and John Bettridge (jnr) and later only A. Jennens and J. Bettridge (jnr) (fl. 1815-1864) were highly regarded for producing quality papier-mâché wares. They acquired the workshops of Henry Clay, Japanner to George III and the Prince of Wales, in 1816. Their original premises were in Birmingham and they started a London branch at 3 West Halkin Street, Belgravia in 1837. Later offices were established in Paris and New York. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
