Mauro Pasquinelli Italian Mid Century Coat in Wood black Lacquered

About the Item

Coat stand white lacquered wood structure Pallavisini coat stand “Cactus”, design Mauro Pasquinelli early 70’s. Born Aug. 27, 1931, in Scandicci, Florence, Italy, Mauro Pasquinelli attended the workshop of his father - a skilled furniture craftsman in Florence - as a boy, learning the art of cabinetmaking. A pupil of Enzo Gori, he graduated from the Florence Art Institute in 1951. In the early 1960s he won awards at several competitions organized by the Trieste Fair that highlighted his talents as a measured and shrewd designer. Towards the end of the same decade he began his own activity as a designer with several Friulian companies, working since then, for more than four decades, mainly in that Triangle of the Chair where he is still recognized as a master of contract and domestic furniture in wood, a material whose mysterious and timeless charm he has investigated and with which he has created numerous seats that are particularly successful in terms of both form and comfort. Throughout his career, Pasquinelli has participated in several exhibition events, obtaining awards and recognition. Of particular note are: 1966, Continental Table Glassware Design, Owens-Illinois Inc, Toledo, Ohio, USA; 1969, Mia Monza-Abet Print Competition, Plastic Laminate in Furniture, La Rinascente Special Prize; 1979, ADI Milano Compasso d'Oro Selection; 1980, ADI Milano - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Italian Design exhibition, Ankara; 1981, Udine Esposizioni Competition, An Italian Chair for Europe; 1981, Honorable Mention, Bio 9 Ljubljana; 1985, Udine International Chair Exhibition, USA-Europe Comparison exhibition: Five Designers; 1991, Compasso d'Oro Selection, ADI Milan; 1997, International Chair Exhibition Udine, exhibition Design is Progress; 1998, exhibitions under the Patronage ICSID International Council of Societies of Industrial Design, Udine; 1999, Köln (D) and Chicago (USA) Neo Com; 2000, Catas Award.

Italian Design Coat Hanger Studio BBPR for Kartell
By Studio BBPR, Kartell
Located in bari, IT
A Space Age design with the coat hanger by Studio BBPR. Graduates of the Milan Polytechnic, the four designers in their early work followed the themes of Italian Rationalism of the 1930s, although they were not an integral part of the main 'Group 7' Movement and MIAR, they collaborated on some projects with Figini and Pollini; these compositional canons can be clearly read in an exemplary building such as the colonia elioterapica in Legnano (1938), where they also realised popular housing units, the so-called Le Grazie working-class neighbourhood (1940-1942). They distinguished themselves for various town-planning schemes, the Pavia Master Plan (1932), the Tourism Plan for the Island of Elba (1939), and above all for the most important and far-reaching, the Valle d'Aosta Master Plan (1936-1937). During this period they took an active part in the controversy that arose between rationalists and traditionalists and at first, like others, felt they could support the clash for freedom of expression and the triumph of modern architecture within fascism, but after the introduction of the racial laws of 1938 that also affected one of their collaborators, the BBPR architects...

Mid-Century Cesare Lacca Black Lacquered Beech Wood Italian Magazine Rack, 1950s
By Cesare Lacca
Located in Roma, IT
Wonderful magazine rack in black lacquered beech wood with removable mid-century shelves. Cesare Lacca designed this amazing piece and was produced in Milan, Italy during the 1950s. This item is fantastic because it is both stylish and functional, as the black lacquered wood structure blends wonderfully with the brown shelves creating a striking mid-century balance and can be folded in order to easily carry it. This piece is perfect for a mid-century library or living room and will complete any project with its striking lines. Born in Naples in 1929, Italian architect-designer Cesare Lacca created modernist furniture and metalwork throughout the 1950s. Though details of his personal life and professional training remain lost to history, there are sufficient surviving primary sources that document his many elegant designs in brasswork for which he is the best know and which fetch high prices from collectors. Like many Italian designers in the 20th century, Lacca moved to Milan after World War II to launch his career. Before he was even 21 years old, his work was selected by a group of American curators for inclusion in the landmark exhibition Italy at Work: Her Renaissance in Design Today that toured 12 US museums between 1950 and 1953—the first major exhibition of Italian design outside of Italy. The exhibition showcased the best and brightest of Italian designers who had embraced modernist principles and rejuvenated traditional Italian crafts, like Carlo Mollino, Franco Albini, and Gio Ponti In the exhibition catalogue, curator Meyric R. Roger’s spotlights Lacca's expert achievements in brass, noting “the variety and quality of his creations,” which “place him high among the architect-designers leading the current [Modernist] movement." Rogers adds, "The quality of his work...provide[s] all the decorative effectiveness needed without strain or exaggeration”. Lacca designed a great many tea carts and serving trolleys in his career—which make up a large proportion of what is available on the vintage market today—as well as magazine racks and coffee tables. Lacca’s most iconic tea cart was manufactured by Italian brand Cassina and features sculpted beech, cedar, teak, or walnut with brass details, a glass tabletop, and a removable glass tray. Lacca also designed high-backed lounge chairs, which were regularly featured in Arredoluce advertisements for Angelo Lelli’s lighting...
