Portmanteau in the Manner by Louis Katona C 1925

About the Item

This Art Deco hall tree, attributed to Louis Katona, is a striking fusion of form and function. Handmade in France, c. 1925, it features hammered wrought iron with intricate S-scrolls, wavy patterns, and geometric detailing, embodying the elegance of early 20th-century metalwork. A beveled mirror sits within the rectangular frame, flanked by ornate hooks for coats and hats. Below, a custom marble countertop enhances the portmanteaux, providing both durability and refined contrast against the ironwork. The lower section integrates an umbrella stand, adorned with a stylized floral motif. Louis Katona was a highly regarded ironworker in France, known for his contributions to Art Deco metalwork and architectural elements. His designs, often commissioned for grand interiors, showcase a unique balance of ornamentation and modernist structure, making this hall tree a refined and collectible example of his craftsmanship.
