This set includes three wall-mounted coat hooks with a sleek and minimalist design. They were crafted between 1970 and 1975 in a well-equipped and innovative workshop located in Cermenate, in the province of Como (Lombardy, Italy), as confirmed by the hallmark stamped on the back. This hallmark also bears the initials of the manufacturing company, but unfortunately, we were unable to trace further information about it. It was most likely a small artisanal business in the area, which was known for its specialized production of steel and other material-based furnishings. However, specific details about these companies remain scarce. These hooks stand out for their clean lines and essential volumes, inspired by geometric shapes that seamlessly blend elegance and functionality. The artisans of that era, eager to push beyond the limitations of traditional materials, experimented with various alternatives, including pure stainless steel. Their creativity and desire for change led to the creation of elegant, bold, and modern pieces, redefining contemporary design trends of the 1970s. From those skilled hands and visionary minds emerged lamps, chairs, tables, coffee tables, vases, magazine racks, and much more. The style of these coat hooks falls within the Space Age movement, an aesthetic born at the dawn of the space era, commonly associated with the launch of Sputnik in October 1957, and which continued to influence design through the 1970s. This style is characterized by the predominant use of spherical, wavy, and sinuous shapes, with a design philosophy that embraces curves, fluidity, lightness, and simplicity. Objects from this period feature essential volumes and geometric forms that break away from rationalist traditions. The front hook is removable, allowing easy access to the screw holes for wall mounting. Once installed, the hook can be effortlessly reattached to its original position. The coat hooks are in good condition, with minor surface scratches consistent with age and use.
