About the Item

This very rare pair of early 18th century finely hand turned wig stands is superb. They each have an intricately turned fruitwood base with the main columns in beautiful yew wood crisply turned in a complicated design and finished with fruitwood domed tops on which to hang an 18th century wig, which was a fashion accessory commonly worn by aristocratic and wealthy people at this time. A true pair of wig stands from this period is very rare, especially in yew wood. These lovely pieces have developed a wonderful, rich patina and waxed finish. They would display very well in numerous positions, offering a very interesting talking point and an interesting piece of social history. English, circa 1730 Height 30cm x width 13cm x depth 13cm
