19th Century French Empire Double-Side Lectern on Cabinet with Carved Eagle
About the Item
Decorate an office or study with this monumental One-of-a-Kind "Lutrin" (or lectern) over an attached cabinet. Crafted in France circa 1810, the bookstand is a striking piece that reflects the grandeur and neoclassical influences of the period. The two-side swivel lectern, features a prominent eagle at the pediment, a symbol often associated with the Napoleonic Empire, perched majestically atop the structure with wings partially spread, and attached to a double-side forged wrought iron book stand. The elegant eagle, meticulously carved, exudes a sense of power and authority. The lectern itself is mounted on a robust turned pedestal stem, the stem secured to a "Confiturier" (or jelly cabinet). The single door cabinet is decorated with side columns embellished with bronze rings, and ending with bun feet. The design combines both elegance and functionality, with the lectern meant to hold religious texts or important documents during ceremonies. This piece would have been a significant item in a church or a government office, embodying the imperial dignity of early 19th-century France. The tall Empire Bible or music stand is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina.

Large Antique Wrought Iron and Bronze Double Sided Lectern from France, 19th C.
Located in Dallas, TX
Known as a lutrin in France, this double-sided lectern is highly scrolled and pierced, making a unique and beautiful dais. The imposing French lutrin is comprised of wrought iron with some bronze embellishments (finials and roundel joineries) and dates to the 1800s, although the double-sided platform was added more recently based on the varying patina and welded construction (the bottom is pinned).
An amazing, banded arabesque of scrolls and counter curves emanate from an open roundel, forming the double-sided slant-top platform. The platform is designed to swivel on a rod that runs through it; a ball finial tops the rod, flanked by a pair of Vitruvian waves that form a majestic crest. There is an arbalete edge that extends off both sides of the platform, providing a stable base for holding music...
